The Sustaining Buzz (2018)

Pollinators are responsible for the production of various crops, fruits, fibres, medicinal plants, and the regeneration of wild plants. However, many farmers lack the knowledge to identify the beneficial insects from damaging pests. At the same time, indiscriminate use of pesticides as clearing techniques are contributing to their decline. There are serious implications in pollinator destruction for food security, livelihoods, human health, industries, and the global economy. This film showcases some of the pollinators and highlights how important it is for scientists and farmers to work together for conservation and better yields and incomes. The film was produced through a grant by Giving Nature a Voice and has been screened on National Television Kenya, Zanzibar International Film Festival 2019, and Ismaili TV 2021, and Earth Optimism Biophilic Film Festival 2021.

Barina Swamp: Hidden gem in Nakuru County

Barina swamp is found in Nakuru County, Kenya and covers an area of 320 acres. It doesn’t have an official protection status. Despite the swamp’s abundant biodiversity, it faces various challenges including pollution, illegal hunting, and encroachment. The compilation of the footage into a short film was realized during the Practice Based Video Editing Training for Scientists that was held in May 2017, at the Africa Digital Media Institute in Nairobi. The training was organized by IIAC – CNRS/EHESS, the French Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA), the Resilience in Eastern African Landscape (REAL) and the French Embassy in Kenya. The video has been shared on IIAC’s website, http://www.iiac.cnrs.fr/article3048.html.
